They Bake confirmed its Newmarket Street location shut on May 1, describing the decision as “bittersweet.” The business says the move will allow it to focus on its Kyle Street premises in Prestwick, which better suits its future plans. Owners have thanked customers in Ayr for their continued support, highlighting the shop’s loyal following over the years.
North Ayrshire Council has approved a major £8.3 million investment into roads and infrastructure across the region. The programme will run over the next 12 months and includes resurfacing, lighting upgrades, and structural improvements. A large portion of the funding—around £6.5 million—will go towards carriageway resurfacing, with significant work planned in Irvine, Kilwinning and Largs.
