A PROJECT has been launched to bring a former Ayrshire mining village, and birthplace of a former legendary Liverpool manager, back to life.

The village of Glenbuck, which was the childhood home of Bill Shankly, is now largely abandoned but The Shankly Glenbuck Village CIC wants to rebuild it as a social history museum.

Other plans in the project, launched by Shankly’s eldest grandchild, Karen Gill, include recreating the former Monkey Row mining cottages as accommodation.

A visitor centre would also tell the story of Glenbuck’s miners, their families and the famous Glenbuck Cherrypickers football team, and aims to bring the story of the community back to life.
