A fire at a property in Saltcoats is now being treated as attempted murder, with police launching an urgent appeal for information. A Brazilian pilot attempting to fly solo around the world made an unexpected stop in Ayrshire as part of his record-breaking journey. Alex Frota landed at Prestwick during his global mission, which spans more than 74,000 kilometres across five continents and 45 countries. he spent time exploring Largs and Kelburn Castle, where he highlighted the cultural links between Scotland and Brazil. North Ayrshire’s roads network has seen a significant improvement in national rankings following recent investment. The area is now ranked 10th out of 32 local authorities in Scotland for road conditions. Council leaders say continued funding, including the newly approved £8.3 million programme, will help maintain and further improve infrastructure. Visitors have a limited-time chance to see a rare historic timepiece at Dumfries House near Cumnock. The Pragnell Bray Origins Clock, which played a role in saving lives at sea, is on display until May 7. Renovation work is underway at The Carlton Hotel in Prestwick following a recent change in ownership. The hotel, now operated by the Fitzsimmon Group, is set to undergo a series of upgrades including the addition of a brand-new restaurant and bar. All 57 staff have been retained following the takeover, with the hotel continuing to operate as normal during the works. Management say the improvements are part of an effort to enhance the venue’s offering for weddings, dining and events.
