FAKES: Counterfeit notes are doing the rounds in Ayrshire (Image: Kilwinning Banking Hub)
Ayrshire businesses have responded to reports of counterfeit bank notes going around, and there is advice on how to identify them.
Outlets, such as Kilmarnock’s Bungalow and TG House of Blondes, have taken on the message from Kilwinning Banking Hub about the fake money and are asking others to keep an eye out.
On their social media, TG House of Blonde’s announced this week that bank transfers will be accepted for the time being as the notes are “doing their rounds”.
The warning from the North Ayrshire hub revealed that “hundreds of pounds worth” of counterfeit notes have been found at a number of locations, leaving some traders “out of pocket”.
In their message, Kilwinning Banking Hub said: “There’s been another spate of fake notes being used in Kilwinning and throughout Ayrshire.
“Hundreds of pounds of fake notes have been used in small businesses who bank with us.
“They’re good copies but feel different. Please be vigilant and if in doubt don’t accept the note.
“Small businesses can’t afford to lose money like this”.
Other banking hubs in Cumnock, West Kilbride and Prestwick’s Daisy Chain and Post Office have reported the use of the notes.
Traders are being advised to look out for tape, made out to be a clear strip, and a “slightly different” colour change to identify fakes.
Dots in the left corners of £10 and £20 notes are another feature to notice, without them would also class the money as fake.
