Ayr is set to welcome thousands of visitors to the International Ayr Show – Festival of Flight this weekend, and here’s what you need to know ahead of the event.
The two-day event will take place at the Low Green this Friday and Saturday, with a packed programme of aerial displays and family entertainment and activities planned on the town’s shorefront.
One of the biggest attractions at the aviation showpiece will be the returning Red Arrows, who will take to the skies for Friday evening and Saturday afternoon performances.
They will be joined by several other high-profile aircraft and teams, including the RAF Typhoon, Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and RAF Falcons Parachute Display Team.
South Ayrshire Council says the event will once again provide entertainment for the whole family.
Councillor Alec Clark, Policy Lead for Commercial/Operational Services, said: “It’s fantastic to be able to announce the line-up of highly regarded RAF display teams set to attend our airshow this year.
He added: “It’s important to celebrate the rich heritage of aviation, as well as highlighting new and exciting innovations in the aerospace industry, which is why I’m pleased to see the BBMF return this year amongst crowd favourites like the Typhoon.”
A Joint Aviation Command Chinook will also perform flypasts across both days, while the Starlings Aerobatic Display Team will return to Ayr for a display on Saturday.
The Festival Village will also entertain away from the skies, including a funfair, a new zip line, a Red Arrows flight simulator and a drone soccer arena.
The International Ayr Show is now in its fourth consecutive year and will hope to build on last year’s event, which saw a “massive” crowd of over 260,000 spectators, as recorded by South Ayrshire Council.
The Festival Village will be open from 4 pm to 9 pm on Friday and from noon to 6 pm on Saturday with free entry on arrival.
South Ayrshire added that temporary traffic measures will be in place over the weekend, warning attendees to avoid parking in restricted areas around Ayr’s Wellington Square.
