Temperatures reached as high as 25.4 degrees in parts of the UK on Friday, including Heathrow Airport and Kew Gardens, making some areas hotter than Tenerife. The warm spell follows a drier and warmer than average April across much of the country.

However, the Met Office has warned that the sunshine will be short-lived. Heavy rain is expected to move in from the south over the weekend, bringing unsettled conditions across the UK. Conditions are expected to improve slightly by Bank Holiday Monday, although showers could still be heavy at times.
