Ayrshire is set to benefit as part of the UK Government’s new Local Growth Fund along with various other local regions

Launched today (8 January) by Scottish Secretary Douglas Alexander, the region will receive £11.8m as part of the overall £140m programme to help “drive economic growth” from term 2026/27 to 28/29.

Regional projects hoping to see a difference over the next few years across East, North, and South Ayrshire include infrastructure investment, business support, and skills development.

In statement from Secretary of State Alexander, he said: “This new investment will allow local leaders to decide how best to use the funding. The UK Government will now work with local partners to develop investment plans tailored to each region.”

Additional areas outlined by Alexander which the funding hopes to tackle were child poverty and bringing down inflation.

He added: “By investing in local areas, the UK Government is focused on delivering material change to people across the country – boosting living standards and improving public services.”

The Local Growth Fund will also look to provide for areas with the lowest Real Disposable Household income and allow “strategic decision-making and maximum growth impact”.

Other regions such as Glasgow City, Edinburgh and South East, and Forth Valley have been included as part of the three-year programme
