South Ayrshire Council have announced plans for the removal of trees from public spaces amid “safety concerns”.
Boydfield Gardens, The Cross, and War Memorial in Prestwick will see the cutdown begin at the start of 2026 with worries of potential damage to the area.
Trees surrounding the town’s War Memorial were particularly pointed out by the council to have “outgrown their location” in announcing the decision with measures to be put in place in limiting area access.
A statement from the council’s X page read: “A number of trees at Boydfield Gardens, Prestwick Cross and Prestwick War Memorial will soon be removed to address safety concerns, including causing damage to the wall and pavement behind the bus stop at The Cross.
“The works are due to begin at the end of January 2026, and we will be replanting new trees in the spring. Some temporary road and path closure will be in place in the area while the works are ongoing.”
Further updates on the plans will be provided by South Ayrshire Council soon.
