South Ayrshire Council apologise after beach car park left closed

South Ayrshire Council has apologised after drivers were unable to access Blackburn Car Park at Ayr beach on Sunday morning, despite it being scheduled to open.

The car park is now subject to daily closures between 6.30pm and 7am as part of enhanced security measures aimed at tackling antisocial behaviour.

However, members of the public reported on social media that the barriers were still closed hours after the scheduled opening time.

A council spokesperson said the opening had been overlooked because of a change in personnel on Sunday morning.

Access was restored at around 10.45am, and the council said steps had been taken to prevent a repeat of the problem.
