The people of Ayrshire are being encouraged to “build stronger communities” in a special week this summer to support local businesses.

Scotland Loves Local Week 2026 is taking place between 13 June to 20 June, with Scotland’s Towns Partnership championing the message in the region to “chose local”.

The partnership has made it clear of its vision to “raise the profile” of Scottish towns and places in this seven-day period.

Shoppers will be given the opportunity to activate a gift card, from the government supported campaign, for a friend or loved one to spend in a variety of businesses.

A spokesperson from Scotland Loves Local said: “By flying the flag for local businesses and championing the ‘chose local’ message, the week is all about the drive for people to build stronger, more sustainable futures for their community by supporting businesses in their area.

“When we love local, we can create better places to live, work and visit. By supporting local, we are choosing to back local businesses and the people behind them.”

Scotland’s Towns Partnership echoes a similar message, to drive the nation’s people towards showing support for their nearby high streets.

They said: “We are helping shape a better future for towns and places more widely, representing and promoting their diversity while supporting those organisations and groups who have an interest and ownership of them.

“We are committed to helping drive innovation and positive change through its recommendations, ensuring cleaner, greener, healthier and fairer towns in the post-pandemic world.”

East Ayrshire Council added that buying local produces is able to lend help to farming communities, local artists, and crafts people for their development.

Last year’s Love Local Week, running from 23 August to 30 August, saw around 200 businesses between South and East Ayrshire sign up to the campaign.

People in the region who have been issued a gift card are advised to activate it immediately, as codes expire after a three-month period, to get their 12-month validation.
