Historic Burns farm on the market

An estate agents has listed a historic Ayrshire property, giving tenants a “rare opportunity” to live in Robert Burns’ former home.

Galbraith Group has leased East Mossgiel Farm, for £1,600 pcm, where Scotland’s bard spent some of his most productive years with the plough and poetry.

The four-bedroom rural property, near Mauchline, offers a “beautifully refurbished” farmhouse in a location for families searching for a countryside lifestyle.

Commuting links appears as another advantage, with easy access to Ayr, Kilmarnock and Glasgow via the A77 and A76.

A spokesperson from Galbraith said: “This is a rare opportunity to rent a fully renovated farmhouse with bedrooms, generous living space, and excellent outdoor storage.

Burns and his family occupied the farm from 1784 to 1788 after being tenants of Lochlea and Mount Oliphant in South Ayrshire.

Address to the Haggis and The Belles of Mauchline were written at East Mossgiel, leading to the bard’s success with the Kilmarnock Edition of his poems.
