More than 1,600 items containing asbestos have been recorded across East Ayrshire schools, according to local authority figures.

The information emerged through council records relating to school buildings across the area.

The materials have been identified and logged as part of the council’s ongoing property management and monitoring processes.

The council maintains records of asbestos-containing materials and manages them in line with established safety procedures and regulations.
