Members of Ayr Diving Club say they have been left “devastated” after a motion aimed at reversing cuts to diving sessions at the Citadel in Ayr failed to progress at a South Ayrshire Council meeting.

The proposal sought to overturn plans to phase out diving and deep-water sessions at the pool, but councillors voted 13-13 on whether the motion should even be heard, meaning it did not move forward.

Head coach Kerr Cruickshank said there were “a lot of tears” from club members following the meeting, with many shocked the debate was not allowed to continue.

Councillors Cameron Ramsay and Duncan Townson, who backed the motion, say they remain committed to fighting for the future of diving in South Ayrshire.
