A  North Ayrshire community group has shown its anger towards vandalism of a festive display saying it puts future events “at risk”.

Irvine Events shared the news on December 17 on their social media condemning the incident that affected the Winter Wonderland set-up at the town’s Bridgegate.

The image on the group’s post shows miniature Christmas trees plotted in the display, leading up to the town centre’s Trinity Hub, to have been forced on their side up the sloped grass bank as a result of the act.

A spokesperson from the Irvine community group said: “What happened last night was not ‘a bit of fun’ – it was deliberate damage to a community event built by volunteers for families, children and the town of Irvine.

“Because of this behaviour, the Christmas trees and decorations at Bridgegate may be removed earlier than planned, and this incident may be the reason we are unable to deliver similar events again.

“This has already wasted time, money and goodwill that the town cannot afford to lose. Irvine deserves better.”

The group’s post assured that anyone identified in causing the incident will have “appropriate action” taken against them.

CCTV footage around the area are being reviewed to investigate the matter and identify those responsible.
