Thunder warning following hot spell

Forecasters have warned that thunderstorms could bring disruption following this week's hot weather spell. The Met Office has issued a yellow thunderstorm warning covering Scotland into today, with the risk of heavy downpours, lightning, hail and strong winds. Forecasters say there is a possibility of localised flooding, difficult driving conditions and isolated power outages. The warning follows exceptionally high temperatures across parts of the UK and comes as weather conditions become increasingly unsettled heading into the weekend.

Nardini’s targeted in morning break-in

Police are investigating after Nardini's Café in Largs was targeted during an overnight break-in. Officers were called to the Greenock Road premises at around 7am on Thursday, June 25, following reports of a break-in and theft. A patio window was smashed during the incident and cash was stolen from the popular café. Police Scotland has confirmed enquiries are continuing as officers work to establish the circumstances surrounding the break-in.

The Maybole Arms has reduced its asking price as the search continues for a new owner. The long-established pub on Kirkoswald Drive is now being marketed for offers over £179,995, down from its previous asking price of £220,000. The sale comes as the current owner prepares to retire after more than 20 years. The fully licensed freehold property includes a fully equipped kitchen and a two-bedroom flat above the pub with garden space and private parking.

Ayr United supporters are being invited to have their say on proposals for a fan zone at Somerset Park next season. A major redevelopment of Woodroad Park in Cumnock has moved a step closer after a detailed feasibility study outlined proposals worth around £1.8 million. Four East Ayrshire couples have been celebrating landmark wedding anniversaries after reaching more than half a century of marriage. Free bus scheme for Armed Forces

Stagecoach is offering free bus travel across Ayrshire to mark Armed Forces Day celebrations later this week. The free travel scheme will be available on Saturday, June 27 and Sunday, June 28 for serving military personnel, veterans and cadets using Stagecoach services around the region. Two brothers from Beith have helped raise money for their school after organising a football-themed pizza fundraiser.
