North Ayrshire workplace injuries stats revealed

North Ayrshire has been ranked second worst in Scotland for non-fatal workplace injuries, according to figures published by the Health and Safety Executive.

The area recorded a rate of 397 injuries per 100,000 workers, compared with the Scottish average of 234.

The figures also show that North Ayrshire’s rate of fatal workplace accidents is more than double the national average.

Darrell Kaye, a partner at Digby Brown Solicitors in Ayr, said the findings raised serious concerns about whether workplace safety rules were being followed.

The report points to hazardous industries such as construction and manufacturing as possible factors behind the accident rates.
