The Met Office has issued a Yellow wind warning for Ayrshire as Storm Boelo is forecast to bring strong winds this weekend.

Gusts could reach 70 to 80mph in exposed coastal areas, with widespread gusts of 55 to 65mph expected across the warning area.

The warning is in place from 6 pm on Saturday 24 October, until 9 pm on Sunday 25 October.

Forecasters have warned of possible power cuts, travel disruption and injuries from flying debris, while large waves could pose “danger to life” conditions for people visiting the coast.

The warning comes as Storm Austen brings disruptive weather to parts of southern Britain, with a separate Yellow rain warning also covering parts of Scotland.

In issuing advice for safety and wellbeing at this time, a spokesperson from the Met Office said: “Being outside in high winds makes you vulnerable to injury. Stay indoors as much as possible. If you do go out, try not to walk, or shelter close to buildings and trees.

“If you are on the coast, stay safe during stormy weather by being aware of large waves. Even from the shore, large breaking waves can sweep you off your feet and out to sea.

Driving in these conditions can be dangerous for yourself and other road users. If you must drive, you can do this more safely by taking the following actions: drive slowly to minimise the impact of wind gusts, be aware of high-sided vehicles on more exposed roads and be cautious when overtaking.”

Further advice says people should secure loose items outside their home in advance of high winds and gather essential items such as torches or power packs in case of a power cut.

The two named storms become the UK’s first of the 2026/27 season after Storm Dave brought disruption earlier in April, to end the 2025/26 season.

Anyone who witnesses emergency incidents in coastal areas across the weekend is being urged to contact 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
