Organisers of Marymass Festival are continuing their preparations for August’s events, and have now revealed an extended list of participating pipe and brass bands.
Representatives of the historic Irvine festival announced on their social media that they are “beyond pleased” to secure their music-making line-up for the packed parade.
Seven bands in total, including Irvine & District Pipe Band and Sons of the Somme Brass Band, will take to the streets in North Ayrshire towards the end of the 12 days worth of events.
A seventh band is yet to be revealed by festival organisers with an announcement to come shortly.
A spokesperson from Marymass believes the efforts of everyone involved to create this years festival have been vital to getting the bands in place.
They said: “We said we were hard at work behind the scenes this year and now we can start to share some of the details.
“Normally at Marymass we have three or four bands in the Marymass Parade, we sometimes manage 5. This year we can announce we have secured seven bands to take part.
“This has been made possible thanks to ongoing fundraising by our team, as each band has a performance fee.
“We can’t wait for the sights and sounds of the Marymass parade next month.”
Further bands making an appearance at Scotland’s largest community parade on 22 August are Irvine and Dreghorn and Irvine New Town Brass Band and Dean Castle Pipe Band.
The Festival runs from 13 to 24 August in Irvine providing community events and attractions such as a fireworks display, live jousting, a football derby between Irvine Meadow and Irvine Victoria and a Greasy Pole Competition.
Marymass remains a cherished celebration of Irvine’s history and heritage with links to its origins in the Middle Ages, with modern festival established in the 1920s.
