Council approves new parking framework

South Ayrshire councillors have approved a new long-term parking management framework following a debate over future parking pressures across the area.

The framework could eventually lead to changes affecting locations including Ayr town centre, Prestwick and Troon.

Councillors have stressed that further reports and consultations will still take place during 2026 and 2027 before any major decisions are implemented.

Council leaders said the new strategy is intended to give the area more flexibility in dealing with different parking issues in different communities, while some councillors raised concerns about decision-making and local impact during the meeting.
