Tribute paid to Navy captain Maguire

Tributes have been paid to George Maguire of Largs, who has died at the age of 83 following a short illness.

A former Merchant Navy captain, George spent 40 years at sea after studying at Nautical College in Glasgow, travelling the world with his wife Anne and later their family.

At his funeral, he was remembered as a disciplined and respected captain whose warmth, humour and generosity left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

Family and friends celebrated a life filled with adventure, while donations in his memory were made to the RNLI.
