Ayrshire’s only powerchair football club have been crowned champions of their division following victory at the weekend.
Ayrshire Tigers claimed the Scottish Powerchair Championship on Sunday with a 3-0 win over Strathclyde Dynamo at Dundee’s Regional Performance Centre.
The final day showdown on Tayside saw the Tigers move above Strathclyde onto top spot of the four-team division, finishing the nine-game season with 22 points.
The club hailed the effort of management team of Jake Vullan, Zarah Barlas, and Darren Driffield for getting their recent success over the line.
A spokesperson from the Tigers said: “After winning all of the final three league games of the season, the Tigers come out as champions.
“Well done to all our players and coaches who have all helped make this happen. The new coaching team of Jake, Zarah, and Darren have got off to a flyer and team who participated in the Championship.
“A massive thank you to the SPFA, the referees, volunteers, supporters and to all the players and teams who participated in the Championship.”
Previous victories on 22 March saw the Tigers defeat Dundee United (3-0) and FC United Warriors (4-0) on their way to the Championship title.
Driffield came out as top scorer over the triple-header of fixtures, finishing the afternoon with a total of five goals.
A double from Driffield was followed up by a strike from Niven to ensure it was three wins from three on the decisive Championship day.
Ayrshire Tigers formed back in 2015 with the aim of providing competitive sports opportunities for wheelchair users with physical disabilities in the region.
The self-funded club have trained at Kyle Academy’s sports hall and welcome fundraising and donations for hiring venues and buying specialized equipment.
