Primary school children in Auchinleck have been given the opportunity to produce a “truly outstanding” design for their local team’s big cup tie.
The plea comes in the build-up to Auchinleck Talbot’s Scottish Cup meeting with Premiership giants Celtic in January with kids from Auchinleck and St Patrick’s Primary School being tasked by the club with designing the matchday programme cover.
The final designs will be entered into a competition with the winner to be displayed on the club’s Black & Gold review as picked by one of the Talbot players.
Following the decision for the fixture’s relocation to Kilmarnock’s Rugby Park, a spokesperson from the club said: “With the big game being taken out of the village, we found it only fitting that we bring the village to the game.”
Councillor Linda Mabon praised the idea of local school’s involvement building up to the game, believing it highlights “a sense of community”.
She said: “This is a historic occasion, and for many pupils, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The wining artwork will become a lasting part of this event, something that will be remembered and appreciated for years to come.
“The anticipation for a match of this scale is incredible and there is a real buzz in the village ahead of the game. I’d like to wish every young person taking part the very best of luck –Â I’m sure we’ll see some truly outstanding designs.”
Talbot face the Parkhead side on January 18 at Rugby Park after the club’s “difficult and extremely disappointing” decision to switch the tie from their Beechwood Park home amidst “ability of surrounding infrastructure” concerns for the event.
The game will be broadcast live on Premier Sports with a kick-off time of 5.30pm.
